The Potentially Dangerous Complications of Plant based Dieting Products

by other on August 22, 2011

The prior ten to fifteen years has witnessed an explosion of non-prescription dieting and fat loss products. Manufacturers understand the marketing value of using herbal ingredients. That is why you constantly see the use of plant based materials on the labeling because the marketing works well. Nonetheless there really are some significant issues with this entire strategy and use of a majority of these ingredients. Initially, some people see the words, natural or herbal, and so they assume the merchandise is safe. So folks simply read a product has natural ingredients and they use it. Almost any natural, or herbal, ingredient can have adverse reactions when used, and you’ll find other issues related to conventional medicines. Still, an additional situation concerns the individual who has a propensity to react adversely to a particular herb.

But there’s a lot more to consider in this entire scenario with fat loss products. Probably almost all of the ingredients have never been fully studied by reputable and impartial research. Sometimes you’ll see references to studies, but be careful that the study wasn’t bought and paid for. As is clear to see, that presents certain difficulties including unbiased research. The end result is perhaps always a positive outcome for the herbal substance that is tested. The honesty involved are questioned, plus they cannot be defended by either side. But also it is the consumer who is placed at possible risk due to this type of biased testing.

Out of all the so-called herbal diet products in the past, very few have been seriously studied. One exception to this rule is ephedra when used in combination with caffeine because they actually produce results for weight loss. The problem there is ephedra had very serious side effects for some people, and that caused it to be not allowed in the US. Well, incredibly enough something brand new made an appearance on shelves, hoodia. This solution, which is a plant derivative coming from South Africa, has been studied to some degree. You should know that hoodia can present hazardous potential unwanted side effects for certain people. Hoodia acts to hinder a person from experiencing hunger, but that also is true of thirst as well. So this product must be treated with extreme caution if used.

Here is a very good example of what can take place with unproven, untested herbal weight loss ingredients. A fat loss herbal product was sold in Belgium which ended in kidney failure for close to one hundred people. Fifty more people experienced various degrees of kidney impairment. Also, there was proof of lesions that were cancerous in a percentage of the kidneys that had been taken from those people. After investigation, it was learned that the manufacturer made a mistake during the process and used the wrong active organic substance.

History is filled with stories about positive uses for herbal remedies to treat many ailments. However, certainly any person should exercise careful attention. The only solution to protect yourself is to understand as much as you possibly can and make  an  effort  to use products  manufactured by trustworthy  businesses.
